Classics and Latin
I’ve been fascinated by the ancient world since I was young, but unfortunately I didn’t have the opportunity to study Classics at my school. So, after my degree, I took a course at King’s College, London and embarked on a lifelong obsession with Latin and Classical History (and Greek, but I’m not good enough at it to teach that yet!).
I regularly tutor students in Latin at GCSE, focusing equally on Language and Literature exams (see ‘English Literature’ for more info on my Literature qualifications/expertise). Grammar and vocab are always hard at first, but I’ll be with you every step of the way and help you achieve a high level of proficiency in both these areas by the time you take your exam! I’m also confident teaching a range of historical and literary sources as may be required by certain exam boards (Ovid, Homer, Virgil etc)
For A Level students, I tutor Classics and Classical Civilisation. I can help with the more in depth historical, social and literary knowledge required for this subject at this level, as well as the trickier aspects of exam technique – argumentative essays, close analysis, academic comprehension skills and so on.
Two of my previous A Level students continued to study Classics at Leeds University and I helped them through their uni courses, so I can help you at this level too in deeper analysis and essay formulation, as well as research and academic skills.
I teach a range of exam boards (AQA, CIE/Cambridge, OCR, CCEA, Edexcel, Eduqas/WJEC).
