English Language is one of those subjects where it’ll set you up for life, no matter what your long term career goals are. Learning to express yourself effectively through accurate grammar and vocabulary is arguably the most important skill you can learn.
Most employees and higher education courses require at least a L4 or L5 in English Language at GCSE. A lot of my students each year are in a situation where they need this grade for their further education plans – if this is you, then get in touch! I’ll help you get there.
For students aiming for top English Language grades, we can break down the subject areas into manageable chunks and work on each one until you’re getting top marks. You have to be able to create your own practical and creative pieces as well as analysing the language of others, so a balance between these two skills is absolutely crucial.
At the higher levels, we can work on Language Investigation coursework (which is closer to the sciences than standard English in terms of technique!), exam/essay skills, close analysis, terminology and learning tricky topics such as Language and Power, Child Language Acquisition or Language Change over time. I’ll also help you with structuring essays and using critics and context to the best of your ability.
Texts / Exam Boards
I teach a range of exam boards (AQA, CIE/Cambridge, OCR, CCEA, Edexcel, Eduqas/WJEC).
From 2017-2018, I was an AQA English Examiner, and I previously worked closely with the CIE syllabus as Head of English for Cambridge Home School. However, I’m equally confident in teaching all these exam boards.
